Ecological trails

During our first trip, we discovered two ecological trails in this region. The endemic mollusk “ligus” can be spotted on those trails as well as a luxuriant vegetation. The “ligus” can be spotted on the trail located between Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Santa Maria although the exact spot remains to be pinpointed.

We took this trail twice in January and December 2002. In December 2006, while on the causeway to get to Cayo Las Brujas, we couldn’t locate the trail from the road.

The shell of the Ligus is similar to a sea shell. It’s an endemic species of this region. This particular mollusk climbs in the trees. Watching closely, they can be spotted in the trees along the trail.

IMPORTANT: THEY SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED!!!

Note: Don’t forget to bring some insect repellant. There is also another trail located further east of the hotels of CSM with the access on the sand track that crosses the island.
